2012 Bank of America Chicago Marathon
FAQs for Runner Tracking

Listed here are frequently asked questions, which will help ensure your success with Runner Tracking.

1. How much does it cost to take advantage of Runner Tracking
This is a complimentary service.

2. How many runners can I track
You can track up to 20 runners. You can follow all 20 runners via text and twitter, but can only choose one runner to follow via Facebook. This is due to Facebook limiting the amount of postings on your wall during a certain time frame and we can’t exceed 10 postings during that time frame.

3. When will Runner Tracking be available
Runner Tracking will be available on Tuesday, October 02 through 10:00 pm Central Saturday, October 6, 2012. You can still track via your mobile phone by texting BIB# to 37619.

4. Is this service offered to International mobile phones
Unfortunately, no. This service is for US handsets only. Also, pre-paid services like MetroPCS, Cricket and TracFone are also not supported. Finally, Google voice is also not supported at this time.

5. How does the Runner Tracking service work
When you register to track runners via SMS, Facebook and/or Twitter, you will have the options to receive a text message to your mobile phone with the split times or post split times on your Facebook and/or Twitter Wall. After you have registered, complete the following steps:

SMS/Text Message:

1)   Under Tracking Methods, click on AUTHORIZE in the Mobile Section.

2)  Enter your mobile number in the field in the pop up window.

3) You will get a prompt that a verification code was sent to your phone. Please check your mobile phone and enter the code in the field provided. Click CONTINUE.

4) You have successfully authorized your mobile phone if you see your number was AUTHORIZED under Tracking Methods. You can also deauthorize and start again if you would like to change the mobile number.

***If I didn't receive a confirmation text message - what could be the problem. Here are the possible reasons:

-        You don’t have a text plan.

-        You may have a corporate issued phone connected to Blackberry or Microsoft Enterprise Server. This will not allow you to receive text messages from our system. Please contact your company or your carrier to try and get messages unblocked.

-        You have an International phone, which is unfortunately not supported at this time.

-        You may have a prepaid service like MetroPCS, TracFone or Cricket.

-        You are using Google Voice.

-        If your carrier is Sprint, they may block short code activity from time to time, and you'll need to call them and ask them to unblock short codes 37619. Most people receive their opt-in texts once the block is removed.
